Operation JINGLE: update

(If you're wondering what i'm talking about, click here)

I went out a few days ago and only passed by one bucket, which was weird because i was on 34th street. But i passed and i got a handful of change and as i was putting it in, the lady was thanking me and wishing me a warm happy day and i had a bit of a struggle getting all the coins into the slot, and i had to push them into it. Well, the last coin, and one she saw, was a penny and i was so embarrassed that she thought all i was giving was pennies, that i reached in my purse and grabbed some more change to put in and the whole thing took an abnormally long time. Just pay the dollar bills, Jen.

I've decided though, that as much as I care about the homeless and downtrodden, I feel that inside, I pay the bucket mostly to help out the bell ringers. Let's be honest, 65 cents (I'm being generous w/that estimate) isn't going to save the world. If i really wanted to help the homeless, there are things i could do at non-Christmas times of the year. So, it's ok, though. Not as world-changing as i had hoped, but my heart is in a right place. Maybe not the BEST place, but a place somewhat good and less selfish than other places. More updates to come...

Well, here's a test to see if your heart is in the right place. Try dropping Canadian money in a bucket and see if you have the same good feeling. If not, stick to American money, however small the amount. If it still makes you feel good, well, you can donate more money that way because of the exchange rate. In fact, Zimbabwe's inflation is currently at 8000%, so one dollar's worth of coins would probably last you the whole winter.

You're doing a great job, Jen, keep it up! Every little bit helps. :0)

By the way, I got tagged and had to pass it on so, you're it! ;0) Check out my blog for the rules.

Ne t'inquiete pas avec le "tag" - si tu ne veux pas, je comprendrai. J'avais des hesitations aussi, donc...fais comme tu veux. :0)

Ha. I think i'd feel like a rat if i gave foreign money. I could try it. 8000% inflation made me bust up... funny stuff.

Natalie-no worries.

I too feel bad for the bell ringers, getting ignored as they stand in the cold ringing. So, I'm donating too. :)
