Pivotal Moments III

Three amazing things happened evening last. All were pivotal moments but I think the last 2 that happened were set off by the first, (though unrelated), and thus, the first was the most pivotal of them all. It was the turning point, so to speak, of the night.

Let me try to explain. It's probably one of the weirdest things that's ever happened to me. Here's the scene: First, let me introduce the pivotal glass of pink lemonade:

I had poured myself half a glass and set it on the counter while tidying the kitchen and getting ready to watch more of The Office. I Netflix'ed the DVD's and have had Office on the brain all week long. Anyway, I was whistling the first line of the theme song. While i was whistling, I turned to exit the kitchen when my fingernail ever so slightly caught the edge of the glass. Now, normally this would mean nothing, but the most remarkable thing happened in a series of a flash of events. I was whistling the first few notes of the song and when my nail tapped the edge of the glass, a clear solid note rang out--the exact note that came next in the song i was whistling. Instantly, my brain registered this and I skipped the note I was GOING to whistle--but the glass rang out instead--and went to the next note to finish the song. All of this happened smoothly.. with no pause, no hesitation, and I didn't realize what had happened until it was all over, where I paused, stood, and let it all sink in. What...the..crap? I mean... what..the..CRAP? Is this as weird to you as it is to me? Because I was stunned.

The following two moments occurred while playing Rummikub later on. In the game of Rummikub, there are numbers of varying colors, and there are two of each number & color in the game. So it's possible to get two red 3's, 2 green 11's, etc.

To begin the game, sometimes we shake the bag of tiles and each draw one and whoever has the higher number goes first. We each reached in and took out a tile. I glanced at mine, certain i would win, and we said "1...2........3" and revealed our tiles at the same time. We BOTH had blue 13's--the ONLY two blue 13's in the bag. What?! "What are the odds, Sean.." I asked, "because this will never...happen...again." So weird!!

Ok, so fast forward several minutes in the middle of the game. Blue 13's are forgotten. Sean had played all but one of his tiles (getting rid of them all is the goal) and I was getting nervous. He couldn't make a play that round so he was forced to draw an additional tile fromthe bag. He took the tile, placed it on his tile rack and said, "oh my..." I asked him, "what? did you get the same one you have?" because that's super annoying. It's always hard to play two of the same tile right together like that. He tells me "I'll tell you after the game..."

Game finishes (Sean won--drat) and he says to me, "Ok, do you want to know what my tiles were when i had one left and had to draw another?" "Oh... yeah," I said. He paused, then said, "two...blue...thirteens!!!!"

WHAT??!! Is that not INSANE? They were posessed or something! An ouija board of some kind but only in numbers.. some kind of code.. what was it trying to tell us?? We got very nervous and decided to just go to bed. Seriously though, what is going ON?

It was a pivotal night of pivotal moments, and I just had to tell you about it. I can't possibly imagine things like that ever happening again, but something tells me it's not the last time we'll be seeing that blue thirteen.

Oh my gosh!!! That's completely crazy. What's even more crazy is that you like Rummikub. JEFF AND I LOVE THAT GAME !!! There are not enough people in the world that know about Rummikub. AND we watch The Office religiously. As I was reading about your strange moments, it seemed strange as well, that we both are obsessed with two of the same things. Maybe someday, if we ever meet, we'll have to have a Rummikub/Office party. Oh sweet day.

Ha! That would be awesome! I know, Rummikub = best game in the world and yeah, I just finished season 2 of THe Office (on dvd) and by "finished" i mean, watched each episode at LEAST 3 times.

So great. I'm glad there are people who appreciate the finer things in life. Where do you live, anyway? are you a friend from AZ?
