b'bya, papaya

As mentioned, I don't like it when I don't like a certain food. I'd like to think I can appreciate something about most things, even if it isn't my favorite. But I have to add another item to my short list of foods that taste like garbage. It is this:

The papaya. It SUCKS, but I mean that in the nicest way possible. I had a lot of it on my latin american vaycay and by the end, I wanted to put all papaya in a giant slingshot and send it on its way to Jupiter. (<-- that is so ridiculously lame. Too bad for you I write blog posts like a stream of consciousness.) Here's why the fruit is so unbecoming:

1. It's mushy

2. It's bland. There's the slightest hint of a sweet fruity flavor but it's so minimal, it tastes more like a cooked carrot that's perhaps been left out on the counter too long. Just when you think it might be possible to ingest some papaya again in the future, there's an unpleasant aftertaste that stops that thought dead in its tracks.

3. It's bright, which normally I don't mind--why would i-- but, going along with #2, it looks kind of like a carrot, when cut up. Or a yam. So it confuses me. Is this a vegetable? And its brightness also makes it seem fun and cheery and gives the impression it might be a delightsome fruit. Not so. It's totally foul, and therefore deceptive, which is probably the worst possible thing a fruit can be.

are there any fruits you don't love? tell me what they are, and why.

But as Hank Scorpio said, "Try the papayas. They’re juicy and full of papayian! Makes you strong like Popeye!" Surely there must be something redeeming about them. Still I guess I've never sat down and knowingly eaten one, so I defer to your opinion.

Wow, what a very random quote that is. Something redeeming about the papaya? Its bright color is cheery for sure. So long as you're only going to look at the papaya, then it is an excellent fruit.

I am not a huge fan of bananas. I think they have many redeeming qualities (banana bread, banana splits, etc.) but just a plain ol banana... mushy. I really think it's the texture that does me in. Oh, and I really hate banana-flavored things (punches, Now-and-Laters, Jolly Ranchers, etc.) All in all, the banana has a pretty awful "fake" flavor and a horrible texture as the real thing. Just my opinion...

Bananas, interesting! Yeah, there is only a brief window of time when the banana is edible, I think. I like them on the greener side. And I agree that banana-flavored candy is all bad. Well, except for Laffy Taffy, for some reason. but maybe that's because Laffy Taffy is just so awesome.

You know about Jon and his issues with pineapple. As for me, I like most fruit I've tried. I especially like fresh figs. Those are tasty.
